Count is growing. Up to 209 as of about 9pm June 17. http://www.uschess.org/datapage/tnmt_entries.php?tnmt=2012USOPEN
Article about a 23 screen movie house that just opened in Vancouver Washington can be found here. http://www.columbian.com/news/2012/jun/20/cinetopia-likely-to-lure-shoppers/
I have not been there yet but this article makes it sound great and I have been to one of there smaller operations.
Entries for the US Open are growing and a chess rate has been established at another hotel that is about 3 blocks from the Hilton.
Any one traveling to Vancouver via train? I checked the cab fare today from the train depot to the Hilton. It is not very far and the fellow in the Radio Cab office said the cost was about $7.00.

Letter from the Red Lion, the overflow hotel for the 2012 US Open. It is located about 3 blocks from the Hilton.
The US Open prize fund is based on 500 paid entries. The US Open page shows a bit more than 1/2 way to that goal has been reached. 100 players from the state of Washington have signed up as of July 2.
Does the lack of a link to U.S. Women’s Open entries on this page mean that no one has signed up for that tournament yet?
Alex Relyea
The US Women’s Open was set up as a separate event, not a section or side event of the US Open, so it would use a different page to show advance entries.

This link can also be accessed from the “National Events” tab on the menu.
Over 300 entries for 2012 US Open now. When will it reach 400? Will it make the goal of 500?
I was at Multomnah Falls earlier this month. How about a hike / lunch around the falls from (say) 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Monday? (If locals have a better idea, I’m listening.)
The entire Columbia River Gorge drive is amazing: strongly recommended!
Also planning a trip to Powell’s…
The downside: I’m only coming in for the Delegates’ Meetings.
The upside: I’m completely free after the meetings each day. So my new DSLR will get a workout.
I need recommendations for great photography opportunities, since I doubt I’ll get back to the Pacific NW anytime soon after the US Open.
http://cityofvancouver.us/ will link you to the City of Vancouver Washington website should you want some information about Vancouver this one
place. Some interesting webcams on the site. See there are more than 300 signed up to play and the entry fee goes up after July 29 so there are probably a lot who will enter in the next week or so. I know of only one grandmaster so far, Yasser Seirawan. Seems like if the USCF allows GMs in with no entry fee they should require the player to register in advance.
Temperature today in Omaha NE: 106 degrees

401 advanced entries as of 4:30pm PDT Sunday July 29. Looks like they have a good chance to get to 500 paid which is what the prize fund is based upon.
I count about 75 LIFE members of USCF signed up to play so far.
I compared the NORTHWEST CHESS mailing list to the advanced entry list and came up with 15 people who live in Clark County, Washington who are signed up to play in the 113th US Open. Since the advanced entry list does not list home towns I might be missing some since probably not all the people may get NORTHWEST CHESS. Clark County is where Vancouver Washington is located.
As one would expect Washington and Oregon are the states from which the most entries on the advanced entry list are from.

205 players on the crosstable for traditional 1 game a day part of the US Open. 6 day event starts on Tuesday and should add a lot more players and then even more for the 4 day schedule. I have been told that 4 GMs from the Webster U group will arrive in Vancouver on Tuesday. Don’t think any of them are on the advanced registration page.
Everyone seems to like the playing site. I got to help with recording the results for the scholastic events on Sat and Sunday. Got a t-shirt for my service.
