My club just had two events, a rapid with 16 games, and a classical with only two games. I wanted to submit both of them at the same time so as to avoid having to pay $3 for the two game event. I never had this situation before, but it seemed straight forward with the old system. Can I submit the 2 game event, piggy backing on another event? Thanks.
You should be able to submit them as 2 sections of the same event. Each section has its own time control, so they will be rated appropriately. Each section also has its own date fields.
I always thought combining events that aren’t actually sections of the same event was illegal or at least frowned upon because it’s unethical. I mean if it’s not the same event, not advertised or known commonly as the same event, why would it be allowed to cheat on rating fees by combining events? Your “saving” is the Federation’s loss. It also makes it difficult to find stuff. Like when TD sticks a match friends played in with his recent tournament as a section. You can’t search for the match easily. What’s worse is the TD is often not present at all for what he’s throwing in and with no currently certified and safe play trained assistant present either. Chief ought to at least be present briefly. Yet I’ve seen business owners run event somewhat over the phone. Not there at all. On the phone at pairing time with a non-TD doing the pairings in Caissa Chess that’s cloud-based. I don’t think because you can get away with something, it’s good to do it. Quite the opposite. Then they also rated it in the wrong location. So sloppy.
It’s surely a problem if TD is combining events to pad numbers to get certification credits to test or just make it look like he’s running larger events than they actually run.
I think adding a section for an extra game that got omitted from another recent (within the supplement period) event is acceptable but not doing what’s suggested in this thread for the purpose of not paying appropriately due rating fees.
I agree it might not have been the best advice to make,
but I don’t think that’s anything unethical about combining as sections.
Almost always all events have more than 12 rateable games. But the situation could come up sometimes, for example when two tournaments of very few players (4 to 7 players join) in 3SS uscf-online-rated took place on chesscom in the same week. There were no TLA, set up on chesscom by same person, happen on same location (online), and same time controls, …
