Changes to Pan Am Collegiate

The announcement of the next Pan Am Collegiate with its corporate connections and emphasis on non-scholarship schools is, I think, an important step forward for both the event and for US Chess.

Thanks for bringing this to the attention of this forum. I played in 6 or 7 Pan-Ams, from 1969 to 1976.

I think that they have identified the nagging problems with the Pan-Am (e.g. the difficulty and expense of sending a team of four across the country). I will be interested in seeing how well they do at addressing the problems, and how they adjust their approach over the next few years.

It seemed odd to me that they are moving the event from the Xmas-New-Year week to the following week. This is, of course, an epochal change, and I would have to assume it’s risky.
