Chess Autographs

I had reason to use Sanders Autograph Price List for 2009. I stumbled over Marcel Duchamp’s name, an avid chessplayer that is better known in the art world. His signed photograph is worth $1375!

So I looked up if they had Bobby J. That signed photograph is worth $605. I could only find one other professional chessplayer, Frank Marshall. His signature without photo is worth $125.

The listing already had shown that Bobby passed along, which always raises the price. For some perspective, the big-named star Elizabeth Taylor, who has a huge following is worth $750.

Humphery Bogart was well known in the chess community. He was even a member of the USCF’s Board of Directors. His signed photgraph is worth $2727!

And that is Frank Marshall, Grandmaster and founder of the Marshall Chess Club? Not Frank Marshall, the man recently mentioned in Alicia Delarrocha’s obituary as being a teacher of hers?

Yes, the original grandmaster!
