I have recently been using ChessRegister.com for Upcoming tournaments for our chess affiliate. However, they have updated HTML (I have little background with this), and what worked before no longer works. They recommended a web search for HTML tutorials (this did not help). Are there super-easy chess registration sites for TDs and affiliates that have automatic paragraph breaks, click and highlight keywords for bolding, and easy links for your website, or registration link, or “Join USCF” (understand this is a link without doing HTML)?
I probably can’t help you with selecting a registration system, but there are three separate, though related, tasks associated with running an event.
One is promoting the event.
The second is handling registrations for that event.
The third is actually running the event, doing pairings, creating round pairing sheets, generating standings–with tiebreaks–and awarding prizes, etc.. This usually also includes generating files used to rate the event.
US Chess has several facilities for promoting your event but is not currently offering tools for event registration or running (eg, pairing) events.
A lot of people use KingRegistration, I believe.
Chess Nut (https://chessnut.club) does all three. We created it and use it at the Media Chess Club. Happy to answer any questions.
Here are some example landing pages:
2026 Alaska State Scholastic Chess Championships - Organized by Alaska Chess Federation
GM Larry Christiansen Simul @ Media Chess Club
Shippensburg Tournaments
Here is an example of one that is complete so you can see the standings / pairings artifacts (which are available once the event is in progress):
King registration - https://www.kingregistration.com/ - works well for us, but it’s far from the only platform; I think a fair amount of people also use Caissa Chess https://caissachess.net/ and Chess Roster (the new owners of SwissSys) also seems to have related functionality at https://www.chessroster.com/
I had a lot of success using Events4Chess, https://events4chess.com/ when I was organizing the Morning Membership events on behalf of US Chess.
I did a YouTube video for US Chess on how I ran these online events, which included a bit about how to use this registration system, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7SNi-CcBpF0&t=297s
Thanks. I checked ChessRoster. They are not up and running with the site yet. They are in the Beta stage, and hope to have it up and running in December (using a control group). They would be the best, as I use ChessRoster paring software (SwissSys).
Kingregistration - I was not able to contact them. You must select an event to do so. No entering in of a title to contact.
CaissaChess - I reviewed their page. I do not see PayPal as an option. They use Stripe. I do not know if this is something that only I would need to get hooked up with, and it connects payments of registrants to their debit/credit or PayPal cards to the system. As opposed to everyone must get a Stripe account.
Oh, I see the Events4Chess. I went to it and got distracted when I saw Chris Bird doing a video and had my username and YouTube info on it. I forgot I attended that. Back to check Events4Chess out!
I suggest just picking any event as that contact form is how the site suggests that tournament directors contact them.
Only you. We used PayPal in the past with King but had issues and switched to Stripe, and we were the only ones that had to get an account.
Very impressive site! I clicked the link, which did not connect, but this may be because it is a past tourney. I see it includes a pairing system as well. I was wanting to continue using the ChessRoster (SwissSys) system. Hard to undo old habits!
Thanks.
Let’s not forget the fourth task associated with running an event - uploading tourney to the new USCF MUIR!
Thanks for your information and insight!
We don’t force you to use Chess Nut for pairing if you don’t want to. But you should give it a try if you decide to use Chess Nut.
It saves so much time to not have to transfer around data between systems. And then to be able to email your participants and share urls for parents or players to follow along. We have a lot do TDs who say that is maybe the best part as it helps quickly surface issues e.g. if an admin fat fingered a result the player could notice it well before next rounds pairings.
If you learned SwissSys you are already PhD level. It would be a breeze to figure out Chess Nut
The plan is to release an API for uploading events from pairing programs directly into MUIR, bypassing the 3 DBF files. This would include more information from the pairing program, too. Probably JSON based, since I think that’s what they’re using in the other APIs.
I do not know the timeline on this, probably early 2026.
And if you want to get into the complete event life cycle, for FIDE rated events there’s a get-data-read-for-FIDE phase, too.
