CLO Needs Subdivision

.
CLO (Chess Life Online) has accumulated a ton of articles. Most of these articles have a limited shelf life, and as they age they expire like old milk.
For instance, “U.S. Chess League Week 2 Recap” or “Leko Wins in Round 8”.
These and many other CLO articles are like the daily sports scores – relevant for a few days, then they fade into history.

Other CLO articles are less time-sensitive.
For instance, “Greg on Chess: The Swiss is Terrible” or “Interview with Mig Greengard”.
These have an enduring relevance and interest and value.

Unfortunately, CLO lumps these two different categories together.
I would like to suggest that the USCF subdivide CLO into two categories that represent this important distinction. As it is, the stale daily reports amount to noise that smothers the signal of the articles of enduring value.

My imperfect categorization of all the CLO articles currently listed:

Good idea. And maybe the “limited shelf life” articles could be purged after a few months.

Bill Smythe

I don’t see why ANY articles need to be purged from CLO, even in-progress reports on tournaments might be of interest to someone in the future.

One of the advantages of the web is that it is not constrained by page limits.

I could see, however, some kind of system wherein certain articles remain easier to find (such as being on the RSS feed) longer than others.

Maybe, then, they could be moved to a separate “limited shelf life articles more than 3 months old” page, so as not to clutter up the main page.

Bill Smythe

No, no, no. The first rule of a successful webpage is that EVERYTHING must be on the Front Page, all the time.
