Confirmation About Getting National Master Title

I was really excited that I managed to get my uscf rating to 2200 for the first time at a tournament Saturday after being 2199 multiple times. However my rating was only 2199.51 so I was nervous that a re rate could potentially change that. So I had two questions: First, is it actually possible for a re rate to mean that I do not get NM since the margin is so thin? And second, how long would it take before there is any official confirmation like receiving a certificate or having it appear on my uscf profile? Sorry if this is a question that gets asked a lot.

We haven’t yet implemented a program to automatically look for new NMs, so I can’t tell you what protocols it will use, but in the past we did not recognize the NM title until an event had been rerated at least once. These days that usually occurs within 24 hours of when it is posted on MUIR.

As far as I can tell, MUIR does not keep a running record of each rerate of an event (that could create 100K or more data records every day), so if a check for new NMs isn’t done on a daily basis, it’s possible that a 2200 rating could drop back down to 2199 in a subsequent rerate before the title is awarded. That will be one of the issues cited when we have the discussion on NM title protocols.

So basically at the moment it isn’t clear if a subsequent re rate could change anything because there isn’t a system for determining who is a new NM yet. Am I understanding that correctly?

Also if a subsequent re rate doesn’t change anything how long would it take for the title to be officially recognized?

As I said before, we haven’t finished the specs for the NM system so I don’t know what it will do or when.

That also means I don’t know when those records will be posted to the milestones system. I am assuming they will be posted automatically, like before, with staff being given a list probably once or twice a month for preparing NM certificates to mail out to new NMs.

I’m not the one who will have to program or maintain tools like the NM title process, I just make recommendations from my knowledge of past practices and analysis of the issues involved in redesigning them, those recommendations may affect design decisions but that’s no guarantee that my recommendations will be the final specs.

Ok, Thanks for the information!
