Please give Eric my best wishes!
Is he by chance diabetic?
Oh wow that’s terrible. I used to see Eric in person selling books when I played scholastic chess at state tournaments. I hope he recovers well and is back playing/teaching chess soon.
A zillion years ago, I was paired in the Golden Knights with one Eric Schiller. He was playing in an over-the-board tourney in NY, so he asked if I wanted to come up there and meet him. I did. This is before he did all his famous chess stuff. Early 70’s, I’d say.
He was a most gracious and interesting gentleman. I don’t remember details of our meeting, but I came away with a lot of respect for him. I’m glad he accomplished so much in chess writing and organizing, and I certainly wish him a healthy recovery.
By the way, i don't recall the result of our game, just that I was the White side of a Gruenfeld, and I made a bizarre opening move, according to him. Given how I stink at both sides of the Gruenfeld, i'd bet that i lost the game!
