I am thinking about putting in a bid for a national tournament for next year. How long after the bids are due does it take for the USCF to award a bid? I am trying to figure out keeping space held with no penalty long enough to see if I get the bid or not.
It was about 45 days after the bid deadline that we were notified of our winning bid. I do not know if that is above or below the average length of time.

It’s going to depend on the specific event, as well as on how many other people (if any) bid on it, and most likely on the specifics of the bid as well. An unproven organizer is likely to see more delays than someone who has a good track record running national events, too.
Having bid on USCF national events in the past myself, I understand the problems that such a vague answer creates, especially when trying to get a site (such as a hotel) to hold space while waiting for a response, but the sites will generally understand the process and the delays involved.
Could one have an addendum to the bid that states it must be approved by such date or bid is withdrawn? (so that if you have a penalty for cancelling reserved space that you can get out of it if you haven’t received an answer by the penalty date.)
Thanks, all. That is helpful. At least I can give them some sort of answer.
