M&M Battle

Greetings,

The USCF has rated the August Swiss 90 event. Chris Motley and I tied for 1st, and Dean Brown won the under prize.

And now, the newsletter…

Game Of The Week

This week’s game comes from the Colorado Springs Chess Club’s August Swiss 90 event. Both Mark McGough & Chris Motley finished their final round pairings quickly. So, they decided to face off against each other for the 11th time this year. The match-up is fairly close, with Chris holding a slight edge (+5-4=2).

The McGough & Motley match-up is also battling for the prize of top contributor to the CSCN website for 2019. Prior to this game, they were tied with 4 published games each and 2 wins each. This game would settle, once-and-for-all, who is the best contributor for 2019.

Of course, while there can only be one top contributor, it is still a great honor to just be on the list. I thank all the chess players who created the games that helped make this newsletter such a success for 2019. And my apologies to anyone who had only losses published. Better luck in 2020!

I don’t like the solution of this one. In the game, Black played 38 … Re6, but he should have jammed both his rooks down the d-file, and then adjusted them to both be on White’s second rank. I think Black has more than enough counterplay here.
