The board of directors of the Massachusetts Chess Association voted unanimously to contribute up to $1,000 from MACA’s Living Memorial Chess Fund to be used to defray Stuart’s travel expenses to Turkey this November.
An initial motion made by George Mirijanian to provide a $100 gift to Stuart was increased to $1,000 on my friendly amendment to George’s motion .
Stuart is a great kid and well deserving of the financial help although I’m not quite sure how this is a USCF issue, unless you are replacing $1,000 of the money USCF will spend on the event.
Well, let’s see. If the USCF had not been forced to spend more than $1/2 Million on frivolous legal actions by Susan Polgar, the USCF would have much more money available to help kids like Stuart.
Aside from the formal relationship between MACA and USCF, anything that advances chess in the US should be considered a USCF issue, shouldn’t it?
This is something positive. I for one would welcome a few dozen “local interest” threads. We don’t have to read them all, and we might discover some new ways to cooperate and share resources.
