"numerous errors"

There was a batch of Lansing tournaments that weren’t rated for a very long time, and were resent this month. All of them were received on July 15th, but
yesterday, only the tournaments from April and May were rated. I checked the received list to see what was going on, and it says that the June Quads, the June Lansing Mini Swiss, and the July Lansing Mini swiss had “numerous errors”. Will these tournaments get rated, or are the going to have to be resent? I wonder if it has something to do with our TD’s certification expiring.

Was a player in one of the Lansing tournaments, myself was thinking what was going on in Lansing. I’m not sure on the number of errors, as one did get past the USCF office (2005 Lansing City Championship). As the club does send in the tournament report on paper, the office should have picked up the error.

With the directors certification expiring (TD certification has expired), was thinking why the Lansing Chess Club did not have the tournaments posted in the michess.org tournament calander. Hope you get a new director soon, as I would love to play in Lansing.

I’m not sure if this matters, but It said “major errors present” to be exact, not “numerous errors”. I talked to the Tournament Director about this and he doesn’t think that it has to do with his certification expiring, so I was worried that if it was the case, the tournaments would never get updated.

We will have a new tournament director and when he gets his certification, the tournaments will be submitting the tournaments over the internet.

The Lansing tournaments haven’t been on the michess calendar for a few years. It has nothing to do with the issues that we are having now. I believe that the mini swisses are on the second tuesday of every month, while we have 25/5 standard rated quads on friday at 8.

There should not be a problem to get the tournament rated. It could be just a expired membership, error on the ID number sent, ect.

Glad you have a new director. Submitting events over the internet is the best way to go. Will they still be having tournaments on August 14, September 11, October 9, November 13, December 11?

That is true. The last few events have been on the calender, not all but the mini-swiss. I’m not sure why the events are not on the calender.

The problem was that they screwed up the crosstables for the Lansing City championship. I was left out of it, and some people were listed in the tournament twice. Now they fixed the crosstables but they didn’t fix the mistakes in the ratings. I am being told that the remaining tournaments are going to get updated within a week.

What I don’t understand is why they went ahead and rated the tournament with the errors while waiting to rate the tournaments without errors.

So when are they going to do the next mass rerating?

I haven’t heard about the dates being changed, so I’m guessing the mini swisses are still on those dates.

If an event is submitted online, the TD has complete control over finding and correcting any errors before it is rated. If it is mailed to the USCF office, it is likely that the office staff won’t know an error such as a mis-identified player is an error unless it trips one of the validation checks.

Players can appear more than once in a rating report, it probably happens in over 10% of all events, so that isn’t an obvious error during validation.

We have been running rerates about once a month, usually on the first weekend of the month. That’s because I have to shut the rating system down completely during a rerate job, and it takes nearly 2 days to run one.

Everything has been rated now.

Good, like to play in the next Lansing event. When is your new director going to have the next event?

I believe it is on the 14th. I will ask about it at the chess club tonight and tell you if I am wrong.
