In SwissSys or by other tools, how do I quickly grab gender information for all the entries? For two situations:
A Scholastic tournament, with top girl trophy for each section.
Fremont All-Girls Chess Championships, where I would like to sort all entries and send an email to parents of entries with USCF record gender: M , just to make sure they did not overlook the title of TLA…
SwissSys updates rating, expirations, Name and State from USCF site, but not Gender.
If it matters (e.g. for a trophy or which section they play in) then collect/verify it upon registration or check in.
I know in our bigger tournaments there always seems to be someone registered the wrong way.
Just send the email to everyone registered to make sure. Word it so folks know it is a gender blind email. Murphy’s law states that any of these notes that would catch an issue will wind up in the recipients spam folder.
I’ve posted a question to senior staff to see their thoughts on adding gender to the allplayers tab file. That doesn’t solve the problem for an event in the next week or two, though.
Do you have a list of IDs you can send me, I can run them through the database as a one-off task.
for the All-Girls Championships, we don’t have a section for any boys whose parents overlook, register, and show up.
We have a National Junior Congress champion, she will host simul on the outdoor patio of venue that would open to all ages all gender… ( Intend to entertain interested parents while their daughters are playing )
Our Fremont All-Girls Chess Championships is in late April. So if gender info could be added to the allplayers tab file by April supplement, that would be great. Otherwise, I will send you ID list when it is two weeks before the tournament. Thank you very much!
There may be some policy questions about putting gender information in a downloadable file, as opposed to just having it on the website. That’s for higher-ups to decide. I don’t know if any of the pairing programs have a gender field in their internal database, I’ve contacted the authors.
If you see it then it means it is part of of one of the web screen APIs! Straight forward to extract and this one is not taxing on the API use. I would not be surprised if ChessNut is already doing this. One thing you need to watch out for is if you know better than what USCF says, you don’t want to overlay the better value.
