On the form for submitting a tournament for USCF rating, I have never once checked the box to have a printed crosstable sent to me, because I saw no reason to spend an extra $2 when I could just wait a few hours and then print the crosstable off MSA. But suddenly I’m curious: Is there something different/special about the $2 crosstable, or is it really exactly the same as the MSA crosstable? If it is the same, why is this option even offered? What’s the point?
It’s slightly different, but essentially the same. I ordered it once after MSA went live. The point is that it is a historical artifact of the time before MSA where it was the only way for TDs (or affiliates) to get the crosstables. Also, keep in mind that not all TDs can/do use MSA. I’m sure Mike Nolan can weigh in with how often that option is selected.

The office gets 12-15 events a month that pay the $2 crosstable fee.
The rating report form (which was NOT modified for 2012, despite suggestions that the changes in time control rules might need to be noted on the form), also contains a $1 receipt/acknowledgement fee (in lieu of supply a SASE.) The office recently received the first event to pay that $1 fee that anyone could remember in the past several years.
Since around 94% of events are submitted online, the $1 receipt/acknowledgement fee is mostly irrelevant these days, and is not included on the online submission form.
I assume you are talking about the printed rating report form, used only in conjunction with reports submitted by snail-mail.

Correct.
