Hi. Please see the image below. While I have read the rules and the calculation theory, I am still having trouble understanding what is going on. Are my ratings for Online Quick/Blitz based solely on the fact that I have an established rating already for Regular? I did lose all the games I played recently. Are the similar ratings because of that fact? Will these ratings increase when the official ratings are posted if I don’t play anymore online games?
Several years ago the ratings initialization process was revised to use a blending formula, where it takes the other ratings information we have on a player (the 5 other US Chess ratings systems plus FIDE and, possibly, CFC) and blends them together. Different ratings systems have different weights and the weights are also adjusted for how stale each rating is.
It’s explained in the white paper, but as I have noted in the past, that document is not light reading.
The ratings shown on your player page are official (published) ratings, not unofficial (latest event) ratings. To see those you need to click on the ‘more’ tab on your list of recent tournaments. We are currently doing a 2-month rerate overnight on a daily basis, so the unofficial ratings can change every day, though usually only by small amounts like .001.
Thanks. Are the ratings not higher because I lost all those games?
Yes that would be the case.
