Check out this month’s now posted Just the Rules column:
Wow, posted this 18,000 years in advance ![]()
I see somebody sitting at board 699 and I knew that section ended in the 680s. I went up to him and let him know that seating was only for players in current games. He said he was playing so I asked him what board he was at. He pointed to the board number and said 669. I then pointed out that he was reading (upside down) the “←- 699 700 –>” board sign. At least that was less than 20 minutes in and he could play the game.
davpell, I think that was clearly done intentionally to reinforce the rest of the title.
Though Tim might be sympathetic to you and pretend it was done in error.

Error…error…error - sheesh, I know better than to make these posts without my 2nd cup of coffee (20026???)
I think my favorite roll your eyes moment was when two players both reported their opponents failed to show up while I recorded both as no-shows because apparently BOTH of them sat at the wrong board and was prepared to withdraw them both. (This was in a state scholastic event with multiple sections all have boards starting with board 1 at the top, I never did figure out where the two players had sat for an hour.)
I wound up treating it as a full point bye for both players.
Always be prepared for the future?!
