Search is broken

Ok, it actually works but you can’t read it. The data is there if you look at the HTML source, so I suspect a CSS issue in displaying lowercase letters.

Interesting…

This is MacOS Safari. But it also appears to be a cookies setting! If I use a Private Window the search works fine. Also works if I use Chrome.

How curious…

I just removed all my cookies for uschess.org and accepted all cookies. It is still broken for me. Not just search, here’s the Mission and Vision page.

I doubt it is a cookies issue it could be a settings issue or something involving the character sets or fonts installed on your computer. We have many users using MacOS, if this was a problem at our end we’d probably have heard about it many times by now.

My wife (a mac user) says to check what fonts are installed and what it is mapping unknown fonts to.

As it seems to be more than just a problem with MUIR but also with new.uschess.org, it is almost certainly something that needs to be corrected on your computer.

I’ve not messed with fonts ever. I did recently update to Tahoe 26.2, but I can’t say if that broke it.

Let me go look at the HTML source again…

And hey, now it works. I made zero changes to my system since posting the question.

And BTW, I’m a retired MacOS/iOS software engineer, if the dev team needs me to test stuff, I’d be happy to help out.

The page is certainly throwing some errors when you open the Developer Console. And this is when the page is working!

Now, these errors may be harmless, but I know my boss wouldn’t have let me push that to Production.

I think this may need to go to our IT director because it may be a problem across multiple sites.

probably same thing. The message is offensive, “Are you offline?”

Are you kidding me? Split second before that page, I was able to pull content and now asking “Are you offline?”
