Does anyone have information on La Vieve Hines of Beverly Hills?
She won the California Chess Congress in 1932.
Is this in the hall of records?
You do realize that was 7 years before the USCF was founded?
United States chess was not invented in 1939. We have history at least back to 1844
How about this article from the California Chess Reporter? Most likely, other information on La Vieve Hines may be found somewhere on this site.
That old newsletter was neat. Was it common back then to use “S” (for Springer) for knight moves instead of “Kt” or “N”?
Thank you Petek. The first link was what I wanted.
I think that may indicate that the article came from another source or were written by someone who uses another language, such as German.
Miss Levieve Hines won the California Chess Congress in 1932. with a perfect score 7-0. She also taught chess and organized teams at the Pasadena Chess club for years. I was unable to find out what happened to her after 1932. You think someone will write a biography about the strongest women chess player in the west ?
