Sixth edition rulebook availability

Today when I ordered a copy TD from Amazon (for another TD) they listed only 10 more available. Is that a marketing ploy or is most of the first printing sold?

It does say “More on the way”.

I heard they might run out of the Kindle version too

While I appreciate the humor of this comment, it does lead me to wonder about updates to the Kindle version. If my poor memory serves correctly, the plan was to have changes to the sixth edition provided as an updated Kindle version. However, I have not seen any updates to my copy.

LOL!!

The Kindle price is a bit on the high side. However, there are some books that are more useful in hard copy where one can quickly flip to index and sections. This is one of them.

I’d heard the Kindle was searchable. Is this not true?

The Kindle version does have a search capability. It also has an active or linked table of contents where you just have to tap the chapter name in it and it takes you there automatically.

I actually have only used the Kindle version since it came out. I have used it as a TD and as a player. I mostly use it on my iPad but also have used it on the laptop for quoting purposes like this:

  1. INTRODUCTION 1A. Scope. Most problems concerning rules that may arise during a chess game are covered in this book. However, the rules of chess cannot and should not regulate all possible situations. In situations not explicitly covered, the tournament director can usually reach a fair decision by considering similar cases and applying their principles analogously. The United States Chess Federation (USCF) presumes that its tournament directors have the competence, sound judgment, and absolute objectivity needed to arrive at fair and logical solutions to problems not specifically treated by these rules.

U.S. Chess Federation. United States Chess Federation’s Official Rules of Chess, Sixth Edition (Kindle Locations 650-654). Diversified Publishing. Kindle Edition.

A lot of Kindle books have that feature. It isn’t always as functional as having the physical book, in my experience.
