49th annual atlantic open has a mixed partner team section. I’m looking for a female to join up with. I think we would do very well. I tied for 3rd in both annual philli open and the recent world open. Also came in second at the 7th annual Potomac in rockville last week. Email me at kedduff@gmail.com or text 2402999000
You tied for 8th in the philly tournament and 10th in the world open…
Sorry I was going by points. I should put that up instead. Results system seems odd to me, can anyone explain?. If multiple people tie for 1st 2nd and 3rd, with no tie breaker games. Why do they put 8th place instead of putting tied for third. We all split the third place prize so I dont understand it.
In Philadelphia, there were 7 guys ahead of you, so you can’t be 3rd, you can only be tied for 8th. Same for World Open, there were 9 guys ahead of you, so even if they all have the same score, you can’t be higher than 10th. Just count the people, not the different scores.
Suppose you’re at the U.S. Open and there are 400 people. But it’s 9 rounds so there are only 19 possible scores. If you score zero, you don’t tell people you were in 19th place
At the world open there were three at 7.5 tying for 1st-3rd and splitting $17000, six more at 7 tying for 4th-9th and splitting $4900 ($816.67 each) and five in your 6.5 score group tying for 10-14 with one taking the $2000 U1500 prize and the other four splitting $400 ($100 each). Since nine players had a higher score than you that means you tied for 10th-14th (saying tied for 10th is simpler and still accurate).
At the Philly Open there was one 7 taking clear first, six at 5.5 and tied for 2nd-7th and five others besides you at 5 with all six tied for 8th-13th. Since seven players had a higher score than you that means you tied for 8th.
At the Potomac Open you tied for 2nd-4th (tied for 2nd).
At the eight-round World Open Blitz 34 players had a higher score than yours so you tied for 35th (35th-38th).
Some organizers do confuse things a bit when the award ribbons based on score and thus give the first place trophy to the only 5-0, three second place ribbons to the three 4-1 players [the 2nd-4th best scores], two third place ribbons to the two 3.5-1.5 players [the 4th-6th best scores] and eight fourth place ribbons to the eight 3-2 players [the 7th-14th best scores]. You usually see that in scholastics with generous organizers, but it is not standard practice.
Thanks Bruce Everett the way you put it makes alot more sense to me now. 9 rounds 400 people 19 score possibilities. 0 points doesnt equal 19th place. That’s why its better to count the players and not the points.
