Jacqueline Piatigorsky is one of the most important women past members of the US Chess Federation. A member of the US Chess Hall of Fame, she was inducted in 2014, two years after her death at 91. She organized two famous and very important tournaments in the 1960’s the two Piatigorsky Cups ( Piatigorsky Cup - Wikipedia ). The second cup in 1966, held in Santa Monica, featured the next two World Champions Spassky and Fischer who finshed in the top two places.
As a player she was ranked as high as #2 among American Women. She was born Jacqueline Rebecca Louise de Rothschild into the French banking family and her second marriage was to renowned cellist Gregor Piatigorsky. Among many of her accomplishments she was an artist. We have two of her paintings from 1970 that will be on sale soon. I contacted the World Chess Hall of Fame but they didn’t respond. If you knew her it would be a great opportunity to own some of her art.
The auction will be at Alex Cooper Auctions (Alexcooper.com) in Baltimore on Friday, July 18. I will post the active auction link on July 3 when the auction is online for bidding. There are two of her works for sale and I will try to post photos here.
