hello once again i have a question in reference to a new club that i will be starting on june 14,2008 most of the people that will come will be those local players who aren’t members of the uscf,my question is can i have a uscf tournament with only one rated player if only one rated player show up?I am trying to get the interest of just everyday players to grow…
If you run a USCF rated tournament, for all practical purposes everyone must be a member of the USCF. Now you could run a tournament and charge the one tournament membership fee on top of your regular entry fee, $12 adults and $5 for the kids. Or you might be better off just running an unrated tournament.
At our club on Monday nights we run a mix of things, for example we might have a tournament that runs over the course of 4 Monday nights of Game 75 that is USCF rated. Then we will have a tournament of 3 game 20s that is not USCF rated, but applies to our local Ladder.
And if you are going to be holding a number of USCF rated events through the year then the one tournament USCF membership isn’t the best deal.
Yes.
We rate a number of tournaments every year in which all of the players are unrated, so having just one rated player is no problem.
That’s separate from the membership requirement issue.
