In the ‘Total Points’ column, what does the letter:number, as in N:3 signify?
At the bottom of the crosstable is this explanation:
So, N:3 means that the player would have earned a category 3 norm. It takes 5 norms to earn a norm-based title, plus meeting any ratings requirement.
So, N=norm? How do we know how many points we have toward that cat3?
It’s on your norms history page here: http://www.uschess.org/datapage/norms-list.php?12492977
I think we could make it a bigger deal when players earn norms and (especially) norms-based titles, but that’s not on anybody’s ‘high priority’ list.
Are norm-based titles explained anywhere on uschess.org? I spent 15 minutes or so looking for a write-up and couldn’t find anything.
There are 3 links at the bottom of the ‘General’ tab on MSA:
For more information on norms-based titles, see The USCF Title System
For more information on the USCF Rating System, see The USCF Rating System
Frequently Asked Questions
The link to the title system explanation also appears on the ‘More’ tab, which shows the milestones you’ve earned, and on the page that shows your norm history.
That’s good information, but it would be easier to find if it were also posted under “Players & Ratings” on the uschess.org home page and at the bottom of the MSA home page.
I’ll keep your suggestions on file for the next time these pages are revised.
