Is there anywhere on the web to play rated games.
I believe World Chess Live has rated online play, but you have to pay an entry fee, and it is only quick chess. I don’t know if they have slower time control events or not.
I think ICS or FICS is good. Even though its not a USCF rated games, it doesn’t mean thier rating are meaningless.
From what I understand, FICS tends to be more competative as far as rating wise, although its been at least 5 years since I heard that.
I think FICS at least is approximate to a USCF rating, or even more conservative.
-I don’t play on ICS.
On FICS, there are a quite a few players in the 1000 to 1400 range, so it may be quite a bit more conservative than USCF. I know my standard rating on FICS is around 1550, but its hard to find players in the range that will play slow games. (30+ minutes or more.)
Many standard ratings on FICS is for 15 to 20 min games (approximanty). Depending on the increment, the starting time could easily be only 5 or 10 minutes. -In that case, I’m not sure how long a game could last.
World Chess Live has USCF Quick Rated games every thursday night.
