– to look up lifetime records between two specific players?
For example, if I wanted to see the results of all the rated games I have played with Jane Doe, I could enter my U.S. Chess ID number and hers, and it would at least display number of wins, draws, and losses between the two. I had thought this was possible from any crosstable listing, but I don’t see that feature anymore.
Not exactly sure how to access this data for two players without manipulating the above URL, but if you go to the Game Statistics link on the MSA General page you’ll see results by rating, with the option to see these results by pre- or post-rating, or by year or against the 30 most common opponents. These can be chosen for all six ratings. Anyway, let’s say that Mr. Smythe is wondering through some old crosstables and happens to see that IM Schmakel played IM Rosen in the 2003 Illinois Open when Rosen was rated in the 1300s. He’s curious as to if they ever played again, and, if so, what their results are. He can find a page analogous to that shown above by the following procedure: Go to Schmakel’s MSA page and select Show Game Statistics. Next, select the rating system we’re interested in, in this case either Regular or All, since we want to focus on a Regular rated game as our “seed”. Now click on 1300 to see the results of all 47 games Schmakel has played, in any system, against players rated between 1300 and 1399. Find his game that we remembered against Rosen. Click on Rosen’s ID number (name will take to to Rosen’s MSA card) and you’ll see all the games between the two since 1991.
Note that there is likely a better way to do this than my kludge, or the quicker but less elegant method of plugging the proper ID numbers into my link above (not sure what the 16253383 refers to), but this will work, though I may have broken it in the course of composing this post.
