Certification Level Senior Tournament Director (Expires 2020-03-31)

I’m returning to active chess after a long absence. I just noticed that my Senior Tournament Director certification expires 2020-30-31.

What happens then? Do I need to re-certify?

I’m not scheduled to run a tournament until 04/18/2020. Do I need to round up some friends before the end of the month to have a “Chess under the Stars” event.

(Snark intended; I’m not proud of it.)

Each month, US Chess reviews TDs whose certifications expire that month. If the TD is found to meet the activity requirement to waive testing, that TD is renewed for another 3, 4, 5 or 6 years depending on the level of certification.

The activity requirements can be found in the Tournament Director Certification rules at main.uschess.org/docs/forms/TDCe … nRules.pdf.

It is slightly different for each level of TD, for instance in your case “The testing requirement for re-certification is waived for a Senior TD with satisfactory performance as the chief or chief assistant TD of five tournaments or a minimum of a single section at five different tournaments during the five-year term.”

TDs who feel they have not met the activity requirement may send a request for the test to recertify to tdcert-group@uschess.org.

A SrTD can be renewed without testing by doing five tournaments during the five-year certification period. You have four tournaments from November of 2015 to February of 2016 so you just need one more in the remainder of the month to renew without needing to take another test.
