Why did the World Chess Center move from Miami? Doesn’t seem like it was there all that long.
The wonders of the interweb. See the “About” link on the World Chess Hall of Fame website.
It didn’t really say why it closed in 2009. Although I think Excaliber went bankrupt or something. Not sure about that though.
Because it has not been open for 3 years?
Can I make this question any simpler…
WHY DID THE WORLD CHESS MUSEUM CLOSE IN MIAMI IN 2009?
I think because the guy who was supporting it no longer could - but that is 3rd hand information.
In St. Louis, Shane Samole told me that Excalibur sought bankruptcy protection when companies such as Sharper Image, owing Excalibur some $10 million went banktrupt, in what he described as a series of dominoes falling.
Excalibur returned to operations, but in the process, gave up the considerable warehouse space at the location where they hosted the Hall of Fame and Museum, which went homeless until reestablished last week in St. Louis.
Thank You.
It was nice that you answered my question with well thought out and substantive facts.
Thanks Hal - I had heard the story - sort of - third hand and did not feel like I know the facts well enough to spell them out.
