2009 SuperNationals

Most people who take the trouble to play in a tournament like that want it to be regular rated. There was an entire thread on games played between G/30 and G/60 being dual rated. There didn’t seem to be much interest in games quick rated only. (G/29) Though I prefer G/45 over G/30, I like the convenience of the shorter time control for this particular event. Anyone who has played in it, knows that if they have a long game they will not get to make sure their students are seated. In fact they find themselves in a time scramble with 3000 kids entering the room at one time. I’d rather have gone through my time scramble before the kids invade.

Finished “GAME OF KINGS” aka “The Kings of New York”, very well written. Does anyone have an opinion on the book?

NASA is recruiting at the Supernationals this year. What are their chances of finding talented kids interested in space?

Or spacey kids?

:bulb: I’ve had my suspicion that some of those kids are not from this world… perhaps NASA has those same suspicions.

A General Accounting Office report last year found that NASA has three times as many engineers aged 60 and over as it has 30 and under - and a quarter of its nearly 19,000 employees will be eligible for retirement in five years. NASA is having difficulty hiring people with the science, engineering, and information-technology skills that are critical to its operations. NASA officials say they are redoubling their efforts to get young people energized about space exploration.
In addition to coaxing astronauts to visit classrooms, the agency is funding elementary school science projects, sending student experiments into space, and creating more apprenticeships for talented high schooler and internships for college students…

Not as good as finiding kids interested in material.

That is the challenge material in space.
The U.S. Space Surveillance Network is currently tracking over 13,000 human-made objects larger than four inches (ten centimeters) in diameter orbiting the Earth. They need help collecting space junk in low Earth orbit
