Adjournment

Yesterday I did my first adjournment. Time control is 40/90, SD/30;+30. Move 107, IM has K+Q, A player has K+R+P. Game had gone from 10:00 to 3:45 with the last round at 4:00. The players had no idea what was going on. They played thirty more moves after they finished their fourth round games before the A player got snap mated, but in a lost position.

I’m curious: after adjourning the game, what result did you use as the basis for the next-round pairings?

I asked the players if they were playing for a draw or a win. White was paired as a draw, Black as a win. Surprisingly simple using SwissSys.

Entering a split result for pairing purposes is very easy with WinTD, too.

A game played at 40/100, SD/30, d10 would reach move 107 by 3:00 pm, at which point both players would be playing with just the 10-second delay.

Is the point you are trying to make that you prefer d10 over inc30 since you don’t have to worry about a long game affecting the start time of the next round or adjourning a game?
