Chess Columns in Newspapers

Any one got a list? I know that a number of papers have stopped having them. I even had one once that got dropped.

I think one or more of the UK paper still have a chess column. I do not believe there are any US papers with a chess column.

I do not see it as sad that newspapers are dropping their chess columns, because…

The drops are the inseparable other side of the coin from the explosion in the number of chess columns overall - on the web. And this explosion in quantity has also been and explosion in variety (which is important).

The number of chess columns on the web might or might not be larger than the number of chess columns in newspapers when newspapers were at their peek. But inasmuch as I rarely purchased more than one newspaper per day back when I bought any newspaper, in effect there was only one chess column in my world. And it was not a good column.

The Boston Globe still has a chess column… for now. You can join the fight to save the column by visiting the “Save Boston Globe’s Chess Column” Facebook page at facebook.com/SaveBostonGlob … ?ref=br_tf.

There are weekly chess columns in Los Angeles, Washington and New York, among the big cities. San Francisco has a daily (Shelby Lyman) column

just an update: the Boston Globe eventually kept its column…only one day was skipped…score one for the chess players!
