Congratulations to Erik Karklins!

Erik Karklins, age 93(!), tied for First in the Experts’ Section of the 2008 Midwest Class Championships, October 10-12th in Wheeling, Illinois. I wonder if this is a record for the oldest player to win a tournament (and competing against Experts!). He also won $800 for his victory. Interestingly, Karklin’s son, FIDE Master Andrew, played in the U.S. Championship over 30 years ago!

Compared to Erik, Victor Korchnoi and Jerry Hanken are just young whippersnappers! He should be congratulated and interviewed by Chess Life.

Very Good suggestion. I would be interested to hear his take on the changes in the players, and spirit of the game, over his time involved in the game.

Let Hilton interview him so it will have that interesting new generation meets older generation feel.
