Erik Karklins at the 2010 Chicago Open

The elder Mr. Karklins (father of the youthful Andrew) was a solid 2300 player in his youth.

He scored 5-2 in the Under 2100 section, increasing his rating from 2044 to 2057 and winning $150. He beat three solid 1900s in the last three rounds.

At this rate, Erik (currently 95 years old) will be back over 2100 by age 97 and back over 2200 by age 103 or so…

(actual rating edited in)

I’ve got to say that’s really cool. I hope to be alive at 95, let alone playing some great chess like Erik.
