I’m personally really enjoying the new book by Tim Just and Wayne Clark in which they share war stories from tournaments over the years. The title is something like My Opponent is Eating a Donut. The price was right (I think $2.99 for the Kindle book).
I read a few each day and get a good chuckle. Today’s anecdote was a about a 7 yr. old girl who convinced (via flirting) her 7 yr. old male opponent to give her a draw despite overwhelming material odds. When father of the boy later protested, the TD told Dad that his son had just learned a valuable life lesson, and that better that he learned it now rather than at age 16 in a parked car. I also greatly enjoyed the one about a player who made an ILC claim while way ahead on material but down on time, assuming that it would result in the TD swapping out the analog clock for a digital delay clock. The player was quite surprised to learn that making that claim is also a draw offer, an offer that his opponent quickly accepted.
Thanks! Wayne and I are glad you enjoyed – well, are still enjoying–the book. I noticed this AM that someone from the UK bought 1 copy. Now Wayne and I are International authors?!
I would really love to read these “war stories”, but I am not hot on buying a Kindle just to make that possible. Is there any chance that a print version of this will ever come out?
BTW, I am working on a hard copy version of the Doughnut" script. There are a lot of hoops to jump through and, for me, a huge learning curve (self-publishing?!). That is a very sticky situation.
