I just download December golden file from legacy URL. See screenshots: Legacy format vs GO new format. By just visual eyes first glance, I do not need to be DB expert to see that these 2 files are in different format, or at least will create problems (manual works, hour of works). New file IS NOT a backward compatibility.
If there’s a status field, it is not the gold master it’s the allplayers file. The gold master DBF files only have 2 sets of ratings in them, and don’t have status or FIDE fields.
The names used for the files on MUIR are different, which I’m not fond of, why change something we’re used to?
The game counts are zero in the December allplayers file, I’m hoping they get that fixed for January.
Here what I see changed:
Country Values
- Legacy: USA, INDIA, UNITED KINGDOM
- GO way: USA, IND, CAN, MEX, GER
Here what I see changed:
- State PR, missing? Puerto Rico
- Puerto Rico became a country in GO way?
Rating Format :
- Legacy: 1700B0, 1791b5, 2017*x7
- GO way: No letter suffixes - just 1700*
Games Played Columns
- Legacy: Explicit 0 for no games
- Empty for no games (except 0* notation seen for some quick ratings)
Please tell them (GO) that it is not a backward compatibility with so many careless changes.
Btw, the GO lead developer is not in this forum anymore?
They’re using FIDE iso codes, and, yes, Puerto Rico is a separate FIDE federation.
We haven’t used the *d3 style codes for over 30 years (they were from a hopelessly flawed norms system) seems like time to get rid of them.
Since the allplayers file is not providing a count of player games (yet) seems reasonable to leave that field blank, no information is IMHO preferable to incorrect information.
The name of this US Chess branded system is MUIR, not GO, btw, and the developer’s name is Leago.
