what do the numbers after the result mean…
for instance I won a chess game and it says W8 and also W3 what do these mean and what does it mean for my rating.
It means you won (W) your games against players number 8 and 3, respectively. If you look at the rest of the crosstable you’ll see that each player has a player number (first column). You can use this number to see who each player played against during the tournament.
Your rating change from the tournament is listed in the second column, under your name.

Agreed.
Or better yet…wait until the next Chess Life to see your official rating change…
You don’t have to wait until Chess Life comes out (and not everybody gets Chess Life anyway.)
We run official ratings lists starting just ahead of midnight on the first Friday of each month, they’re usually available online at msa.uschess.org by about noon on Saturday.
For example, the May ratings are available now even though the May issue of Chess Life won’t start arriving for another few days. The June ratings should be available on May 2nd.
