We’re trying to submit a rating report in a tournament that was created via SwissSys. We had input the second time control as G/30 instead of SD/30.The new portal for submitting rating reports allows us to change that information in the time control field. When we try to move on to the next step, though, we get a message saying that there is "“unsaved information” on the page.
However, having corrected the info right on the page, there is no evident way to save the page. How to save/update the edited information so that we can conclude the rating report?
Out of curiosity, and without anything on the webpage to indicate that this is what I needed to do, I decided to try hitting Enter, and it worked. I was then able to move on to the next step.
There are a couple of places where editing is a bit clumsy, this is one of them.
Improving that is on the projects list.
I would prefer an update button something similar that has to be clicked on before any changes are processed, because it is far too easy for me to change a field by mistake and then not remember what was previously in it.
That would be a good improvement! There needs to be some visual cue on the page for the user to be able to tell how to update the tournament information when necessary.
I’m not eager to repeat the exercise to verify this, but IIRC the notification that the time control info was invalid came only at the end of the process when we tried to validate the tournament, and it was only when we went back to that page that a notice showed up below the field indicating that there was a problem. If feasible, an immediate error message would be helpful, similar in concept to when you’re making an online purchase and you don’t correctly enter the digits for the phone number or credit card. That’s another possible UI improvement, though maybe one harder to implement than an “Update” button.
