Peter Thiel is on the cover of the September 22, 2014 Fortune magazine, with the cover story “Peter Thiel Disagrees With You”
fortune.com/2014/09/04/peter-thi … -strategy/
The article includes him posing with one of his chess sets, and the body text includes:
“Thiel began playing chess when he was 6, and by age 12 was ranked seventh in the U.S. in the under-13 category. (He continued to play tournament chess into his thirties and still plays “blitz chess”—five-minute games—over the Internet.)”
Resurrecting an old thread…the article referenced in the subject line appeared in the 11/28/2011 issue.
I hate most “oracular wisdom” business books. But I read Thiel’s Zero to One yesterday, and strongly recommend it, even to folks who have no interest in founding a startup or investing in one. And there are a few nuggets that chess players will enjoy.
If you want to read a really bad book, read Kasparov’s “How Life Imitates Chess.” I purchased a copy for a dollar at a Half Priced Books store. After reading it, I gave it to a friend who is an investment analyst to get his thoughts on the book. He loved it for its comical lack of understanding of business.
Yup. Not even a good chess book.
