One Champ Crowned, Two To Go

Greetings,

The 60th City Chess Championship is a wrap! It looked like it was going to be a battle between the defending 2025 Champ, Daniel Marmer, and 2004 Champ, LM Brian Wall to see who could get their 2nd title first. However, nothing ever goes as planned. Brian’s driver got sick :face_vomiting:and opened the door :door:for Paul Anderson to win his 3rd City Chess Championship instead.

Paul won his first title in 2010 and took 16 years to finally tie NM Richard “Buck” Buchanan, whose City title wins ran from 1992 to 2012 (20 years). However, the record for longest gap between his 1st and last (possibly) titles was Shaun MacMillan with a 25-year gap (1982-2007)!

The excitement isn’t over, as the Colorado Springs Chess Club has 2 more Championship this year!

November 24th = 3rd Quick Chess Championship

December 29th = 31st Speed Chess Championship

The qualifiers for the Championship sections are set (see below). However, you could still get an unexpected crown if any qualifier can’t get a ride!

Monthly Recap

Club Treasurer and Vice President image

Paul Anderson pulled off the Swiss Gambit to win the 60th City Champ and his 3rd City Title. However, the best performance just might have been from Clint Eads (right), who raked in 141 rating points, beat his nemesis Mark McGough (left), and tied for 2nd place.
