Recently had a TD not able to add Organizer to his tournament. He thought it was because it was a non-fide rated event, although I do not think that should matter
Also I am not able to see the Organizer field on the rating reports after the event has been rated (even FIDE rated events)
I just wanted to check if Organizer is showing on Muir rated reports (Possible I missed it, but I can’t find them in the global listing area)
Also wanted to check if it is possible to add Organizer to Non-fide rated tournaments (It is possible he was just trying to add organizer in the wrong order, he was trying to add an organizer after the event has been validated FYI)
If you bring up an event and click on the 3 vertical dots on the right hand side of the block that has the event location and date, it will show the organizer field.
I think if it is in a multi-section event, you do that at the section level. I was not able to find a multi-section FIDE rated event in a quick search to report exactly how that works, but I know the information is being captured.
There are still some problems putting in the lists of TDs and duties, plus the organizer. What it was doing is not accepting an ID in the organizer field if that individual was listed as in a TD capacity, which doesn’t make any sense, TD and organizer roles are independent and a person can be listed in several different roles. I don’t know if that has been fixed yet.
While the organizer field was added specifically for FIDE-rated events, there is no requirement for the event to have a FIDE rated section to use that field. It is worth noting that there are probably organizers at clubs who are not US Chess members so they wouldn’t have an ID.
The organizer the TD was trying to add was also in the TD field. I will let the TD know to only add him as organizer to events that he is not a TD (until the issue is fixed)
Possibly a lot of events that got ported in didnt have the organizer info ported (that’s a different issue entirely though)
The issue is fixed now. You can see it for example on our weekend event US Chess where I show up as assistant td and organizer. I only show up at the event and the FIDE open section level, although I’d have to go to the files to see exactly how that was entered.
Isn’t the US Chess version of an organizer the affiliate? FIDE doesn’t recognize organizations as the ‘organizer’ and hence you need to list an individual for their records for FIDE rated events, but if an event is US Chess rated only then the affiliate needs to be current and will be held accountable for ‘organizer’ related issues, not an individual.
Yes, US Chess has tended to think of the affiliate as the organizer, though in reality there’s usually one individual who is in charge of the event from a non-TD issue perspective.
But as I said, that field was added specifically for FIDE events, perhaps the field should have been better named like ‘FIDE organizer’. I don’t see the harm in using it to indicate who the organizer was if that person has a US Chess ID.
