While attempting to rate a tournament, I encountered the following validation error:

I always have problem #1 and updated the TLA information. I have never seen the other error before. Also, these showed up errors while listing me as the section chief within the tournament format. Only when I opened each section did the error go away. There seems to be a bug with the latest version.
The TLA information is not a field that exists in either of the current upload formats, and since it involves selecting the TLA ID from a list of events using the event dates and the affiliate ID, it may not be possible to pre-enter it.
Jennifer, I looked at your original upload files (which we save for a while), the section chief TD field in them was blank, which is why you got those errors.
I can tell you used WinTD for your event, apparently version 4.11.
You need to enter the section chief TD’s ID in WinTD before building your upload files. (I haven’t used WinTD much, so I’m not sure exactly when/where you do that.)
This could be an issue with how WinTD builds the new format upload file, but I don’t have a recent version of WinTD to test it. (Is 4.11 still the latest version?)
Followup: I see other tournaments run with WinTD also apparently 4.11, where the section Chief TD field is present and valid.
The online editor is programmed to insert the tournament chief TD’s ID in the section chief field if the latter is blank, which is why looking at the sections online fixed those errors.
In my case, I used WinTD (4.11) and did not specify a section chief in the upload file, so maybe that is what’s causing that error message until the section is opened for editing once online
Did you ever have a tournament where someone joins the USCF and wants his Chess Life mailed to England? It might be a player who has a FIDE rating and has never played in the U.S. before.
