Problem with USCF website

Every time I go to a Forum Index or a new post today, the top of the screen has stuff like the following:

Whot happened?

Dunno, seems to be working now.

Plans to move to a newer faster server have been kicking around since mid-August, we may get approval to order it in the next week.

Update: According to Marty Hirsch, the problem was a log file that had gotten too large, which has been corrected.

Thanks, I saw the same question had been answered in the “Issues” forum after I posted here.

Just visited the main site to look at Chess Life online and was told I had to register or logon to look at more than just the first few lines/words in any article. The left panel still said “Hi, wbport Logout USCF Member”, but it wanted me to register again for CL.

Bug or feature?

I think that’s a cookie issue, what browser are you using? (Sounds like the problem we have/had with AOL.)

Try restarting your browser and if that doesn’t do it delete all the cookies from uschess.org.

I’ve been having exactly the same problem as wbport for the last couple of weeks. I’m using IE7. I deleted all my uschess.org cookies, but the problem came back. I also discovered that refreshing the page usually (but not always) fixed the problem. The problem is intermittant. I reported this via the CONTACT link, but haven’t received a reply.

Pete K.

I also use IE 7.

It only happened once, but the last few times I tried I was able to read full articles and play over games on the CL side and I didn’t delete any cookies. 'swierd.

I don’t think these are capacity issues, but if they are then moving to a newer/bigger/faster server should help. (And that will also give us more control over some web server settings since we won’t have to share this server with other users, which may help us address some browser-related problems.)

The site was very slow for a few days for me, i think over the past weekend (10/18-19), but seems fine to me now.

mike, my uscf coffee mug broke the automatic coaster thingy on my desktop computer…can you help?

I think if you pour a quart of black strap molasses in, that’ll stick things together for ya.

BTW, the new servers (2 of them so that we have a backup) are on order, they should be ready to install in about two weeks.
