All too often the website asks for my login/pw, even if I have entered it the day before…(and yes, I always check the ‘remember me’ box). Considering whatever else I do, my bank/credit card/other forums never ask for it (unless I clear my cookies), it seems to be a website issue.
Any ideas how to resolve it? Quite annoying to have to do it over and over (and then see 'the forum doesn’t exist, and have to re-navigate to it as well).
I got a Dell (9100 i think?), I use XP and IE 8. (and to the comment above: If I had this with other places where I save my info, I would know to reboot… but it is only the USCF forums…
We think it’s a Joomla related issue, Aviv. (If it’s an IE issue, it may also be due to what I think is a long-standing inconsistency with how IE handles cookies, dating back to at least IE 6.) BTW, you don’t have cookies turned off, do you? (Probably not, if banking sites are working for you.)
It’s unlikely that banks would use Joomla, an open-source (aka free) product, to run their banking websites.
They use a product that they pay fairly hefty dollars for, like Fiserv’s banking platform. (I used to do some consulting work for Information Technology, a Nebraska-based company that pioneered banking software and was purchased by Fiserv some years back.)
BTW, we don’t use Joomla for the TD/Affiliate Support Area, does it work for you?
Yes, cookies are ‘on’. I never visit the TD forum, I am afraid but come to think of it: I always get to the forums after visiting the main USCF page, and click on forums. Right there, before choosing any specific forum, I can already see my login/pw empty. So I don’t think it is forum-particular.
I was not referring to the TD Forum, but to the TD/Affiliate Support Area. However, if you aren’t a certified TD, that many not be anything you’ve ever needed to use.
I have the same problem, but only occasionally. At least 9 times out of 10 it logs in automatically.
On a Sudoku forum I used to participate in, it would NEVER log me in automatically, and some other participants had the same problem. One day, it suddenly started working. Who knows?
Chess Life lists Phillip R. Smith as both USCF IT Director and Webmaster, as well as having another (non-technical) responsibility. His email address is shown as psmith@uschess.org.
Perhaps you should bring this to his attention. If you get any response, perhaps you could share progress or lack thereof.
