SUPERNATIONALS

So who all’s planning on working that behemoth tournament in Nashville this year? It’s a go for me, on the floor.

I’m scheduled to work it.

I had really hoped to, but my son decided his internships are more important, so he’s graduating college a year late, and my wife says I have to go to his graduation.

I’ll be in the back room. See ya!

In the backroom.

See everyone there.

All these Seniors in the backroom, I want in

You won’t see me, Maret, I ain’t allowed in LOL – Unless I can manage to muck up some results slips again

I’ll be there as well (the tournament, that is, not the back room).

Customer side this time. Worked many event on the floor before doing a number in the back room - glad to be on the floor again. Losing a bunch of weight makes the floor side easier to do for me.

Ha!

I was honored to be invited to work the floor, and equally as happy to decline.

Oh, you never know. I like to get out and walk around a bit during the day. And I try to keep in touch with whatever section chief or chiefs I’m working with.

If the crew is anything as good as it was in December, there won’t be many mucked-up results slips. I had the K-1 section, many of whom can’t write their own names completely, and there were only two faulty slips that I remember.

Supernationals V had an overall chief, three division chiefs, three division floor chiefs, one back room chief, 10 pairing chiefs, 20 section chiefs, and around 40-50 floor TDs. There were 82 e-mail addresses on the 2013 TD e-mail (might not have counted family members using one e-mail or TDs that do not use e-mail).

This year there are five more sections, so the number of section chiefs and possibly pairing chiefs would increase.

As interested as I am about who is working it, if everybody replied this would become a very long thread.

PS I’ll be there.

Fortunately I don’t have to know how to write my name, just my initials.

IKR? We expect more from the kids than we do from the TDs. :smiling_imp:

This year the number of section chiefs has increased to 24 and the number of pairing chiefs has increased to 12. I haven’t heard yet how many floor TDs will join the other 44 TDs. There were 34 TDs at the National Elementary last year (1 chief, 1 floor chief, 1 back room chief, 8 section chiefs, 6 pairing chiefs, 17 floor TDs).

All right, who wants to take a guess at what the final attendance number will be? Over a week to go, and it is approaching 5K.

The cutoff dates aren’t the same as in 2013. In 2013 the 2nd cutoff was Sunday, March 31st, this year it is Friday, May 5th.

I’m still thinking we’ll top out just below 5800, say, 5785.

2009 saw 5000 reached the Sunday before (5247 total).
2013 saw 5000 reached the Monday before (5335 total) (possibly when mailed entries were processed with postmarks before the cutoff). In an earlier post Mike said there were 1100-some in the final week, which would include the cutoff period.
With 4983 so far we have a good chance of exceeding 5000 three days before the second cutoff and ten days before the tournament. Another 1100-some in the final week would take it over 6100.
My initial prediction was 5750. I think 6000 is reasonable and 6250 is somewhat plausible.

I also think the limiting factor is not the playing area size, or even the skittles area size, but rather the number of sleeping rooms available within five miles of the site. That limitation may make it top out less then 6000.

Never mind about this post. Jeff Wiewel is all over this topic here: http://www.uschess.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=23&t=23234&st=0&sk=t&sd=a&start=45
