October starts our Championship season at the Colorado Springs Chess Club!
October = 60th City Chess Championship
November = 3rd Quick Chess Championship
December = 31st Speed Chess Championship
It all started back in 1947 when the club was founded. The founding members didn’t have an annual tournament to decide a city champion. However, that honor was reserved for the highest rated member of the club each year. Who was the “top board” in which year is still a mystery, as all we have, as far as documentation, is a note on the first club plaque…

Also, there is one last chance to qualify for the 3rd Quick Chess Championship section on September 29th!
The first qualifier is our reigning Champ, FM Gunnar Andersen, who could be the best quick player, not just in the city, but also in the state of Colorado. I just noticed that he is the only Coloradan who made it into the Top 100 Quick players (at 91)!

Be careful for what you wish! John Graybill (+0-6=0) gets his wish to face Paul Anderson (+6-0=0) again but runs out of time! We seem to play twice every year (since 24), and I have won them all. However, it is getting tougher, and I am not sure how much longer my luck will hold out, especially if I keep getting Black (last 5 games)!
