Top 100 Rankings by Age etc

Thank you! It looks good.

@nolan

past months’ ranking imported from MSA to MUIR are fine,

but December 2025 generated on MUIR needs a fix:

When there are tied, the next ranks did not count correctly.

Reported, but I don’t know how quick they’ll get it fixed, depends on where the problem is.

The fix for the ties issue should be deployed by tomorrow.

The ties issue has been resolved. You might need to refresh a page to get the updated data.

Is the system sending verification emails for January 2026?

Will the new email structure comply with the CAN-SPAM act, and

send “Your recent tournament performance has been rated” emails as well?

I don’t know the timeline for automating sending out Top 100 verification emails, and Korey is off this week so I can’t ask him.

Resuming the ‘your tournament has been rated’ emails is on the future projects list. I don’t have an ETA for that as well.

As to CAN-SPAM, I’m not sure how it applies to the Top 100 list verification emails because they are not ‘advertising’ but refer to a member benefit that results from tournament activity. In any given month we usually only send out a relatively small number of those emails (under 500, I think.)

The ‘your tournament has been rated’ emails are an opt-in system so CAN-SPAM shouldn’t be an issue there.

Providing simple opt-out mechanisms may meet the CAN-SPAM requirements, but that’s not a legal opinion.

Is January list ready to release? Thank you and thank Korey

Korey took last week off so I don’t know where we are on the January Top 100 lists. Should know more later today.

the issue that “Online-Regular - 18 to 49 (Any Fed)” being filled with “Online-Regular - Under 18 (Any Fed)” data are present too in MUIR, for the archives of Jan-Nov 2025.

That’s expected, as top 100 data Jan-Nov 2025 were copied from MSA to MUIR.

Staff discovered one error with the December lists that nobody had reported yet, so that’s being fixed and the lists should be available some time tomorrow.

As to the issue above, that may be a template error if it extends back through early 2025, we’ll have to look into it.

This is an error on the legacy server that’s been there since 2020, but nobody noticed (or reported) it until now. We’re working on a fix on the legacy server followed by a re-transfer of the Top 100 archives. The December 2025 lists were not affected.

I think the legacy site Top 100 files are right, they will need to be re-migrated over to MUIR, which may not happen until next week.

eta on January list release?

I should have it later today to review the January Top 100 data, it may be posted then or it may wait until tomorrow so I have a chance to make sure the issues we noted with the December list have all been addressed.

Contact membership services, membership@uschess.org

The problem is generally that we don’t have verified information (gender and birthdate).

Did birthdate/gender verification email get sent out (by Korey, or, automatically), for any new addition into the February Top 100 lists? Thank you

are birthdate/gender verification emails

automated on MUIR, or, continue manually by Korey?

The goal is to have them mostly automated, Korey would get an advance list of players who may make the next top 100 lists but do not have verified gender and birthdates. (FWIW, that is now a requirement to appear on ANY top 100 list, not just gender or age-specific ones.)

He’d get that list around the first of the month and after a quick review of it, be able to send out emails, giving people about two weeks to respond before the next list is published. Still working out the technical details, such as how to send out emails through the CIVI-CRM system (like email blasts.) That way we don’t have to support multiple email ecosystems that have bounce tracking and opt-out features.
