It also was in the latest issue of Chess Life. I noticed it earlier today, but I can’t tell you what page.

It will be interesting to see what happens in the Akobian - So game this year after last year’s kerfuffle over alleged note taking during the game.

I don’t think anything unusual will happen.

Nothing really happened between So and Akobian. So refused to comply with the rules, and was penalized accordingly. If anything, the “kerfuffle” was between So and the Arbiter.

Best wishes to all combatants

It is too bad there aren’t enough IMs for WGM Abrahamyan to earn an IM norm. She’d need three, plus GM Krush. Maybe some of the players who are not yet WGMs will earn norms. Will someone be posting norm results?

BTW, the official site has all the women listed as “Male”.

Actually, WGM Abrahamyan will earn a nine game IM norm if she scores at least 1/2 in her last round game. While it is true that she has not faced enough opponents with the IM or GM title to earn an eleven game norm, FIDE regulation B.01.1.42f allows a player to ignore any games the player won. If we omit WGM Abrahamyan’s wins against WFM Yu and FM Gorti (the two lowest rated of her defeated opponents), she would be left with nine opponents with an average rating of 2302. A score of 6.5 would yield a high enough performance rating to qualify for an IM norm.

Doesn’t Tatev already have three IM norms achieved, but needs to achieve a 2400 FIDE rating?

You appear to be correct. The list of title applications for consideration at the first quarter Presidential Board meeting of 2014 includes an application for the IM title for WGM Abrahamyan.

Her 8/11 score gives a tournament performance rating of 2453, and she will gain 31.4 rating points from this tournament. If she has no other events rated for the May FRL, her new rating should be 2373.

Nice tournament by Caruana and Paikidze. Also a nice result for So considering all the turmoil of last year.
