UPDATE: I FOUND 2 EMAIL ADDRESSES AT END OF VIDEO FOR KOREY & BRYAN. SENT INFO THERE. AWAITING RESPONSE.
I started to enter the info into the MUIR, because when I clicked to add the tournament and was taken to the old page that I never used, it said I could click the Beta so I went there and started entering.
I watched the video and read the pdf instructions. They seem like fine instructions. However, there are a few things that happened that I’d like to tell support rather than posting them here.
I emailed ratings-support@uschess.org like the email I got today said and it replied, “The group ratings-support only accepts messages from people in its organization or on its allowed senders list, and your email address isn’t on the list.”
Is there another email I can send the message to? Or do you want me to post what I experienced here?
Should I have attempted to enter the info into the old page since the new one isn’t ready till 10/29 to 11/1?
there is no way to get a tournament on the beta system into the current ratings system, that will not happen until later this month when we shut down TD/A, transfer data over to MUIR and start it up.
It’s unfortunate that you’ll have to learn the TD/A system just in time for it to be shut down, unless you want to wait another 10 days to rate your first event.
You probably ran into member not found or not current issues with your players, because the beta system’s member database is a couple of weeks old. Getting real-time updates of member records working is one of the issues that must work in order to proceed with the scheduled migration to the new MUIR system.
It’s ok. I don’t mind learning the old system. It will help me appreciate the new system more, I suspect. I’ll go back in once the twins are off to school and I’m out of my first meeting and give it a shot.
And if I fail again, I guess I’ll have to wait 10 days to enter it into the new system.
Whatever it takes.
In a few weeks I’ll buy SwissSys or WINTD, but I really wanted to force myself to learn to do at least one manually first (though I would have preferred to do at least 3 manually) so I can then pass my knowledge along to my students over the next 14-20 hopefully + years that I plan to be dedicating to chess before I retire—if I ever do before I pass on.
Thanks again for your help. I sincerely appreciate it.
A lot of new tournament organizers find Chess Nut much easier to use than WinTD and SwissSys. If you want to give it a try, please register using the link below and let me know so I can get you set up with a 30 day free trial:
Chess Nut does all of the pairing stuff of a SwissSys but adds in:
Tournament Registration (flows right into the pairing app since it is all-in-one)
Messaging (message your participants with round pairings, results, and event promotion)
Mobile Friendliness (run entire events from a computer or your phone)
Also, for any organizers that are ‘pre-affiliated’ you can use Chess Nut completely free so it is a great starter.
I agree with this for most (all?) newbies. So unless one is going to be working with another group that is entrenched in using WinTD/SwissSys or using some feature that Chess Nut does not provide – there are some - but unlikely to be in a new TD’s requisites and they could get added to a future version – Chess Nut has a lot going for it.
If all one cares about is keeping a club list/pairing/rating then all the non used advantages of Chess Nut might not be worth the extra expense then again the ease of use/modern UI alone might be worth it (Time > $)
Also, another option is Vega and it is free - sort of https://caissachess.net/ is yet another option, but from what I have seen (not much) is more expensive ($100/yr) cloud solution that offers less features than Chess Nut.
A reminder to all posters that the Acceptable Use Guidelines do not permit advertisements. It doesn’t matter whether the poster is affiliated with the item being advertised or not; it still violates the AUG.
This post seems OK to me, as it speaks only of a free version and is thus more informative than advertising. However, I removed another post that in my judgment crossed the line.
If you want to use Chessnut along the way of your journey as a TD, I can provide some help since I have used it for tournaments. I think that Chessnut is not hard to learn, but you may have questions about it. WinTD and SwissSys might be more complicated in processes, but, I guess, you can buy them out right.
