In one of the older posts, I saw that “Milestones and norms” will be available in the new system by mid of January. What is the latest update on this?
Preliminary norms were computed last night for events that ended on or after 11/1/25 and are being reviewed for accuracy, if they look good, they’ll be released and titles computed from them, but that may not happen today as there are other tasks (top 100 and March supplement) that are also in progress.
Does not seem that minimum 4 rounds rule was applied for the prelim norm calculations? Thanks
Looks as if milestones, e.g. # of games won, is still pending. I did notice some new norms showing today.
Only events with 4 or more round are norm eligible.
Revised: Quads can earn bonus points but not norms.
However, a player who had 3 played games plus either a forfeit win or a full-point bye can earn norms.

My mistake, the rule about quads applies to bonus points, not norms. I updated the earlier post.
However the 3 rated games and either a forfeit win or full-point bye rule is part of the norms system.
- A norm is earned toward a Y-title when a player’s total score in an event exceeds the value
CT, the sum of the Ci given in equation (1), by 1.0, assuming four or more games have been
played. If only three games have been played, and a fourth game is either a “bye” (coded as
“B”) or a forfeit win (coded as “X”), then the player’s total score from the three games must
exceed CT by at least 2.0. The computation for Ci is computed relative to the opponent’s
post-event rating, not pre-event rating
This is the example I was looking at. This was a 3 round swiss event, but the system seems to be calculating a norm
That may be a coding error, I’ll report it.

I mixed them up the other way around in thinking quads (3 rounders) did not get bonus – at least I got corrected the first time I was explaining it to a parent. 
I always have thought a Quads+1 format (optional? counts for prize? 4th game to help get a norm) might be a good idea (I guess I could even estimate & post the score needed for the norm based on live ratings)
A quad+1 event, such as the top 2 players in a quad playing against each other and the bottom 2 doing the same, would appear to meet the Norms requirements (see below), but what would you do about prizes?
I could see advantages to that format for new players, so they get the 4 games needed for a published rating.

I’ve observed the same: norm was given from 3-round game tournaments (no firfeit or full point bye).
This has been reported and is being worked on, no ETA on when these errant norms will be removed, but no updated titles have been generated based on them yet.

First thought is based on the three game result.
Maybe the 4th game is just always 1v2 & 3v4 – that is re-pair of round 3 with colors reversed.
There is those color issues where there is a chance for 3 blacks if you try to pair the leaders for a 4 round prize – or might even be the same colors they had the first time to equalize 2-2.
A second though 60% for 3 round winner(s) and the remaining 40% for 4 round winner(s). Sort of a second chance at a prize in addition to the chance for a norm.

Another possibility would be to distribute the second chance based solely on the round 4 result, giving the lower scoring players a chance at a prize, too.
Hi, I noticed that the milestones section has not been updated since mid 2025. I understand there is a plan of gradual migration w/ NM title the highest near term priority. But can you pls provide an update on the roadmap and ETA? For example, when I see 5+ CM norms earned, when will the milestone section be updated? Thanks
We think we have the norms computations working now, the next step will be to complete the tool that awards titles.

Suppose I have a five-round tournament. However, for some reason, after playing four games, I have to leave and could not play the fifth round, which is given a “U” in the rating system. Am I still eligible for the CM norm? Thanks.
