MUIR is now open!

I noticed a similar issue with some players in this event, 2025OregonClassChampionships | US Chess Ratings. Just one example is this player, Karthik Bimod | US Chess Ratings. His pre-event rating from the event that was just rated is listed as 2006 but his post-event rating from his previous event is listed as 2007.

The state ranking problem has now been logged as a support issue.

Until events are rerated and put into proper sort order, the pre-event rating may not be flowing right. There are often two choices for what pre-event rating to use for an event that comes in late, and both of them create problems, so it’s mostly a question of which problem is worse.

Rerates fix all, or at least they’re supposed to.

I don’t know when the first rerate will take place on MUIR, probably not tomorrow, we’re still working on getting our ducks all in a row on that.

I don’t think that’s the issue here. If you look at the player I mentioned, it appears all his events are in proper sort order already.

I’ve reported it, this could be a FP to integer issue on MUIR.

FYI - I reported the JTP problem previously mentioned to Korey last night. A little after noon today the validation went through.

We are getting multiple reports that things are running VERY slow.

We’re aware of it, Leago’s aware of it, the ball is pretty much in their court to address.

I’ll let you know if I hear anything substantive.

We’ve had a brief meeting with the developers, they’ve already doubled the resources allocated to the database server and are looking into the specific queries that were reported as running slow.

Because our load is so variable, we will be looking into autoscaling assuming the price isn’t outrageous. Our peak load tends to be from about 5PM Friday to 10 PM Monday, with lulls in the wee hours of the morning, because that’s when the TDs are getting ready to run their events and then getting ready to submit them for rating. Sometimes Thursday evenings peak a bit, too.

We should start seeing some improvements fairly quickly but please continue to report things that appear to be running slow so we know to put them on the hit list.

Issues with queries to the membership system backing up need to be addressed with the vendor who handles that system.

Type “None” is a bit odd for the “Other TDs” (also sent in to ratings-support).

Looks like a migration data issue, which we know is mucked up.

The state ranking issue has been hot-fixed, but that may not be a long-term fix. This will likely need to be checked again when the December Ratings List is generated later this month.

Several TDs have run into issues uploading DBF files, getting some kind of an error when they are processed. I’ve seen two or three different messages, including a blank.

Some, but not all of them, have come from various versions of SwissSys.

My suspicion is that the parsing code I wrote in 2005 is more error-tolerant than the parsing code that Leago wrote in 2025.

If you encounter this error on an upload, please send copies of the 3 DBF files to ratings-support@uschess.org so we can add them to the test suite that Leago has for testing uploads and help us get rid of this issue.

I saw this issue occur on a Mac using Chrome and then work successfully on a Windows PC using the same dbf files just now…

Yeah, I’ve had two similar reports (maybe the same event) in the last hour. I’ll add that to the list ot things to test. I suspect it’s a semi-random situation and those are always the hardest to exterminate.

MIssing Section Chief TD and Section Asst. TD:

This information is available in the S_CTD_ID and S_ATD_ID fields of the TSEXPORT.DBF file.

Looks like some fields in the upload files aren’t being passed through. Will report this to developers.

Tournament Chief Assistant TD information and section Chief TD information

have been discarded in the data migration from old to MUIR. Was that bug reported along with the above as well? Thank you

Is the birthdate leak being addressed as a priority to fix? Thanks

Tonight a player has alerted me that he has not received “Your recent tournament performance has been rated” email for Friday’s tournament.

With new MUIR, are all previous email subscriptions broken?

The post-tournament emails and the milestones emails are on the to-do list, I don’t know how soon they’ll resume. We’ve received a lot of inquiries about them. That one’s a bit intricate because you have to build a whole e-mail structure to deal with bounces, unsubscribe links, etc to comply with the CAN-SPAM act.

Re-transferring the tournament data to clean up the missing TD info is planned, might not happen this week. It probably needs to be tested to make sure it’s picking everything up,

I don’t know what priority has been assigned to the birthday data leak issue, I’ll ask about that in today’s status update call.

I think I’ve probably logged 100 issue tickets since Friday, and I’m not the only one creating them, so there’s a lot to clean up.
