ChessOpeningsExplained website problems

Anybody use this? It’s built around Albert, Dzindi and Perelshteyn’s books. I paid for a year’s membership yesterday and I can’t get it to work. It let me register. I can log in. But when I try to access any member (paid) content, it “thinks” I haven’t logged in. I have emailed them, but no response. I can probably get a refund through PayPal, but if anybody knows a hidden “trick”…

Have you tried clearing your cache (usually F5, ctrl-F5, alt-F5, or shift-F5, depending on your browser)?

Obviously we don’t know the specifics of someone else’s site, but many login protocols use cookies. It’s also possible there’s a delay between registration and activation.

Is there a ‘reset your password’ feature?

Sure, I was just seeing if my problem or something like it happened with others. I have cleared the cache, rebooted the computer, tried it with a different computer (with a different OS). I paid yesterday, sent them a couple of notifications (via their website) today and received nothing. Their site lets me log in, seems to recognize me, lets me change various account data and remembers the changes. It just keeps “forgetting” that I’m signed on when I try to access their data.

There IS a password reset feature, and I will try it right now. Tried the new password. Wouldn’t work. Tried initial password. I logged in nicely. But, still couldn’t access the member data.

I’ve initiated a complaint via PayPal. Thanks for your help. I will let folks know what happens, whether it’s my fault or the website’s.

Why would you want to pay for this? Those opening books are crap, theweekinchess.com/john-watson-r … disastrous

Separate issue, but since you ask…

The two sample videos seem pretty good, Perelshteyn promises significant updating of the lines in the book (which I bought from Amazon used some time ago) and there are some other goodies. Sure, some of the books’ recommended lines are over-hyped and alternatives are glossed over. But I’m using it mostly to flesh out a repertoire that has only some points of overlap with lines they discuss. The site claims to have some strong players ready to answer specific questions about opening lines.

Worth the money? I dunno. YMMV. A year’s membership costs less than a single lesson from a top player. But all of these issue are moot if the site itself doesn’t work or isn’t professionally run.

Have you tried different browsers

Yeah, I did all the usual things, different browsers, change password, reboot, clear cache, 3 separate computers (W7, W10 and Android). They responded this morning. It’s a bug on their end. Nobody can access member content. They are working on it.

They seem to have fixed it. All’s well that ends well, hopefully.
